Exciting new Clonmacnoise gicleé print (1)
Printed by the Copperhouse in Dublin, using high quality archival inks on acid free paper to produce superior prints that will last without fading or yellowing. A gicleé print contains UV treatments in the archival inks, which are guaranteed colour stable for many years. My prints are limited edition, signed and stamped.
Clonmacnoise is located on the banks of the river Shannon. It is the burial place to many of the high kings from East and the West of Ireland. It is also the resting place of Rory O’ Connor, the last high king of Ireland, who is buried in the 10th Century Cathedral. St. Ciaran founded his monastery here in 544AD. It benefitted from the patronage of powerful Gaelic nobles who aspired to be high Kings. The ruins also tell the story of the attacks it endured from many quarters over the centuries.
Clonmacnoise fell into decline in the 13th Century and became the seat of an impoverished bishop .In 1522 the English garrison from Athlone finally reduced it to a ruin..
